Welcome

We would like to invite you to our Spetses 2025 Summer School on ‘Functional Genomics of Metabolic Diseases’ (FEBS ALC 25-011).

Our Summer School offers a unique meeting opportunity for early career scientists in the fields of functional genomics and metabolic diseases and particularly aims to cross-fertilize the fields. This is essential to understand human disease mechanisms and functional genomics-based discovery and intervention strategies towards personalized medicine. The field of functional genomics, understood as the integrated study of how genes and intergenic non-coding regions of the genome contribute to phenotypes, is rapidly progressing through the development of multi-omics and genome editing approaches, paired with a keen interest in addressing fundamental research questions. We will intensely discuss these questions with an emphasis on their relevance for major metabolic diseases, including obesity and metabolic syndrome, diabetes, cardiovascular and liver diseases. Our program will highlight current advances in applying functional genomics approaches to better understand, treat and prevent metabolic diseases. Renowned lecturers will introduce current concepts and methodologiesfollowed by in-depth discussions of basic mechanisms and disease relevance. Focus will be on student activities and networking during workshops, tutorial lunches and dinners, poster sessions and individual discussions, thereby stimulating scientific dialogue and a familiar atmosphere. All students and lecturers will stay at the Spetses Hotel offering modern meeting facilities, idyllic surroundings, excellent possibilities for recreation and exploration of Greek culture, bars and restaurants.

We look forward to welcoming you at the wonderful Spetses Island for a memorable scientific and social event.

On behalf of all organizers
